FLINT, Mich. (WJRT) – Tenure-track faculty at the University of Michigan-Flint are officially unionized.

The union, American Federation of Teachers Local 5671, announced they were recognized by the university today. Union members said they began working towards unionization just under two years ago.

“Faculty were frustrated,” said Associate Professor Daniel Birchok. “We were feeling frustrated about a lack of voice in the institution. We were feeling frustrated about arbitrary decisions that were being made without consultation and I think it just so happened that several of us were like ‘We’re not going to take this anymore.'”
